Ilaria CAVALLERI : « For my musical life, now comes the real beginning !«

Ilaria CAVALLERI : elle a été l’un des coups de cœur de l’Orangerie cet été au Festival Un Piano sous les Arbres à Lunel-Viel (France) (lire ici… et là…), c’est donc un plaisir de suivre son évolution maintenant, surtout lorsqu’elle franchit une étape importante de sa toute jeune carrière.

• Ilaria bonjour. Comment vas-tu depuis ton passage fin août à Un Piano sous les Arbres ?
  Bonjour Dominique, je vais très bien merci. C’est une période très sereine pour moi.

• Il me semble qu’il y a quelques jours tu as franchi une étape importante de ta formation et que tu as été diplômée du Conservatoire de Milan. Peux-tu nous dire de quoi il s’agit ?
  C’est vrai, le 31 octobre j’ai été diplômée en piano au Conservatoire de Milan sous la direction du Maestro Davide CABASSI. J’ai joué un récital avec les 4 scherzos de Chopin et le jury m’a donné la mention de 110 laude. Je suis vraiment heureuse !

• Comment as-tu occupé les 2 mois qui ont séparé ce concert en France de ton examen ?
  Je savais que je devais me préparer pour mon diplôme alors j’ai accepté d’étudier au Conservatoire : j’ai passé les derniers examens (piano et orgue) et puis j’ai commencé à me préparer pour le grand jour ! Entre-temps, j’ai été parmi les lauréats du Prix du Conservatoire – un concours interne parmi tous les étudiants – et j’ai commencé à enseigner le piano dans une académie de musique.

• Tu as joué les 4 scherzos de Chopin, ceux que tu avais joués cet été à Lunel-Viel. Est-ce toi qui a choisi le programme ou t’était-il imposé ?
  En fait, j’ai choisi le programme d’études moi-même, avant même de venir à Lunel-Viel. Je voulais terminer mes études avec Chopin et les 4 Scherzos me semblaient parfaits ! A Lunel-Viel, c’était la première fois que je les jouais donc je dirais que ce concert m’a servi de première expérience avant l’obtention du diplôme.

• A l’Orangerie, tu m’avais dit « il y a eu des moments où j’ai simplement regardé au-delà du piano et admiré le magnifique parc à travers les vitraux ! ». As-tu pu profiter également à Milan ou l’enjeu t’en a-t-il empêché ?
  Hahaha à Milan je n’avais bien sûr pas la vue sur le parc comme au Festival ! Mais jouer dans la Sala Verdi est une expérience unique et fascinante, donc j’ai toujours pu me sentir à l’aise et me laisser emporter par la musique.

• Quelle a été durant ces 2 ans la plus grande difficulté à laquelle tu aies dû faire face et comment l’as-tu surmontée ?
  Honnêtement, cela n’a pas été facile pendant ces deux ans. J’ai dû composer avec des réalités plus grandes que moi qui me faisaient souvent sentir illégitime. Il fût un temps où j’ai même pensé à abandonner ma carrière de piano et à me consacrer à tout autre chose. Puis avec le temps, la conscience, les propositions de nouveaux concerts et projets, les encouragements de mes Maestros qui n’ont jamais cessé de croire en moi et, surtout, avec le soutien de ma famille, l’enthousiasme est revenu et avec lui les grandes satisfactions. Maintenant je suis déterminée et je sais que la musique fera toujours partie de ma vie.
  

• Maintenant que tu es diplômée, si tu ne devais remercier qu’une seule personne, qui serait-elle ?
  Ma mère. Je ne serais rien sans elle : elle me comprend, me supporte et me soutient comme seule une mère peut le faire. Elle ne veut que mon bien et je lui serai reconnaissante à vie parce qu’elle est une mère si spéciale… Permet-moi cependant de remercier aussi les Maestros qui m’ont suivie dans mon cursus musical car si j’ai été diplômée comme cela, sur le plan pratique, le mérite leur appartient !
  
  
• Aujourd’hui, comment vois-tu petite Ilaria qui a commencé le piano je crois vers 7 ans ? Qu’as-tu envie de lui dire ?
  Je lui dis qu’elle a choisi un chemin difficile mais qui lui apportera une grande satisfaction. D’être déterminée et engagée, mais surtout de ne jamais cesser de rêver.
  
  
• Est-ce une étape de ta formation ou l’aboutissement ?
  C’est la fin de mon parcours académique mais pour ma vie musicale, c’est le vrai début !
  

• Et maintenant ?
  Maintenant, je voudrais me concentrer sur mon identité musicale et la renforcer ; je vais certainement continuer avec des concerts en solo mais j’ai également l’intention d’aborder la musique de chambre, que j’aime beaucoup.
  
  
• As-tu un rêve ou une envie un peu folle ?
  J’aimerais étudier les œuvres complètes de Chopin mais aussi jouer souvent à l’étranger. Qui sait, peut-être qu’un jour quelqu’un m’appellera aussi pour aller aux Etats-Unis !
  
  
• Quelle est la question que je ne t’ai pas posée… et la réponse ?
  Ahah peut-être quand je retournerai en France ? Qui sait ? L’avenir nous le dira…
  
  
• Je te laisse le dernier mot, Ilaria…
  Merci beaucoup Dominique, c’est un plaisir de répondre à tes questions et de laisser les gens découvrir des aspects de moi qu’ils ne peuvent peut-être pas comprendre seulement quand je joue du piano. Je vais certainement te tenir au courant de mes prochaines aventures donc je te dis juste « Salut et à bientôt » !

Ilaria CAVALLERI : she was one of the favorites of the Orangerie this summer at the Festival Un Piano sous les Arbres in Lunel-Viel (France) (read here… and there…), so it is a pleasure to follow her evolution now, especially when she reaches an important stage in her very young career.

• Ilaria hello. How are you doing since your visit at the end of August at Un Piano sous les Arbres ?
  Hi Dominique, I’m very well thank you, it’s a very serene period for me.
  
  
• It seems to me that a few days ago you took an important step in your training and graduated from the Conservatory of Milan. Can you tell us preciaslu what it is about ?
  That’s right, on October 31st I graduated in Piano at the Milan Conservatory under the guidance of Maestro Davide Cabassi. I played a recital with Chopin‘s 4 scherzos and the examination board gave me 110 laude. I’m really happy !
  
  
• How did you spent the 2 months that separated this concert in France and your exam (concerts ? rehearsals ?)
  I knew I had to prepare for my graduation so I agreed on studying for the Conservatory : I passed the last exams (piano and organ) and then I started preparing for the big day ! In the meantime I was among the winners of the Conservatory Prize – an internal competition among all students – and I started teaching piano in a music academy.
  
  
• You played Chopin’s 4 scherzos, the ones you played this summer in Lunel-Viel. Did you choose the program or was it imposed on you ? Actually, I chose the degree program myself, even before coming to Lunel-Viel. I wanted to end my studies with Chopin and, the 4 Scherzos, seemed perfect to me ! It was Lunel-Viel‘s first time playing them, so I’d say I used that performance as my first experiment before graduation.
  
  
• At the Orangerie, you told me «there were times when I simply looked beyond the piano and admired the beautiful park through the stained glass windows !». Were you also able to enjoy in Milan or did the stakes prevent you ?
  Hahaha, surely in Milan I didn’t have the view of the park like in France ! But playing in Sala Verdi is a unique and fascinating experience, so I was still able to feel at ease and let myself be carried away by the music
  
  
• What was the biggest challenge or difficulties you faced during those 2 years and how did you overcome it ?
  Honestly, it hasn’t been an easy two years.  I had to deal with realities bigger than me that often made me feel inadequate. There was a time when I even thought about abandoning my piano career and devoting myself to something else. Then with the passing of time, the awareness, the proposals for new concerts and projects, the encouragement from my Maestros who have never stopped believing in me and, above all, with the support of my family, the enthusiasm returned and with it the great satisfactions. Now I’m determined and I know that music will always be a part of my life.
  
  
• Now that you have graduated, if you had to thank only one person, who would they be My mom. I would be nothing without her: she understands me, puts up with me and supports me as only a mother can do, she only wants my good and I will be grateful to her for life because she is such a special mother. Allow me, however, to thank the Maestros who have followed me in this musical growth because, if I have achieved this success, on a practical level, the merit is theirs !
  
  
• Today, how do you see little Ilaria who started piano I think around 7 years old – do not hesitate to correct me – ? What would you tell her ?
  I tell her that she has chosen a difficult path but one that will bring her great satisfaction. To be determined and committed, but above all, to never stop dreaming
  
  
• Is this a step in your training or the culmination, the end of the journey ?
  It’s the end of an academic journey but, for my musical life, now comes the real beginning !
  
  
• And now ?
  Now I would like to focus on my musical identity and strengthen it; I will definitely continue with solo concerts but I also intend to approach chamber music, which I love very much.
  
  
• Do you have a dream or a crazy desire ?
  I would like to study the complete works of Chopin but also often play abroad. Who knows, maybe someday someone will call me to America as well !
  
  
• What is the question I forget to ask you… and the answer ?
  Ahah maybe when I go back to France again? Who knows ? The future will let us find out…
